Bob Freeman

After completing my City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 I started my Catering Career first as a Commis Chef in The Goring Hotel in London, then as FOH in the Hotel La Voile D’Or Cap Ferrat France.  On returning to England, I took up Cake decorating for Clark’s Bakeries where I was promoted to my first supervisory role, this was somewhat of a surprise at the time and I was even more surprised that I was not only good at it, but I enjoyed the responsibilities that came with the role.

This lead me in a different direction within the catering business and over the following years I progressed through the ranks in various catering businesses eventually becoming Kitchen manager for BT/Post Office.

After moving from Surrey to West Sussex we settled in Sunny Bognor Regis where my wife and I had two children. I joined Butlins in Bognor Regis in 1999 as the Kitchen Manager for the Guest Catering Department serving food for up to 2500 twice a day, seven days of the week. During this time, I took and passed my level 3 and Level 4 food safety exams and then after completing the Train the Trainer exam, I was part of a small team that delivered the CIEH Level 2/3 food safety training not just for Butlins but also for the sister brands of Warners and Haven.

I was also part of the team that implemented the first HACCP system within Butlins.

After a few years my role evolved into carrying out Food Safety Audits across the resort, I was then offered and took the H & S Managers role for Butlins Bognor Regis, ensuring that the workplace is a safe environment for the guests and the team, a role I loved very much.

After almost 25 years of working for Butlins, in the October 2023, I left and became a sole trader delivering consultancy and training focusing mainly on H & S and Food safety.

My Hobbies are Travelling Great Britian and Europe (although if given the choice it would be Malta every time). I enjoy walking and taking photographs of the areas we visit.

I have supported Fulham FC forever and while we are enjoying some good football right now, I have seen some dire football during my time.

My children now grown up and married have between them given me six Grand children who help to keep me young at heart.
