This qualification was developed in conjunction with Local Authority Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS). It has been designed for Local Authority licensing officers, and those responsible for the administration of the Licensing Act 2003. It ensures those involved in the review and approval of personal and premises licences are aware of their roles and practice under the new law and the associated Guidance and Regulations.
What does it cover?
The aim of this qualification is to provide individuals with essential knowledge of the legal framework surrounding the sale of alcohol in England and Wales. This includes key information on the responsibilities of personal licence holders, duties of the designated premises supervisor, the role of licensing authorities and police powers regarding licensed premises.
The qualification covers the following topics:
- The duties of a licensing authority
- Applications and determination of a licence being granted
- Hearing and appeal processes and procedures
- The duties of applicants
- The powers and rights of the relevant authorities to inspect licensed premises
- Sanctions
Exam and Certificate
Exam: It is assessed by a 45-question multiple-choice examination which takes 50 minutes to complete. Learners must achieve a mark of at least 31 in order to pass.
